The NUSTAR week conference has gathered together international experts in the Fields of Nuclear Physics and Nuclear Astrophysics, at the headquarter of Milano University. Scientific and technical progresses have been presented and discussed in connection with the development of the international facility FAIR in Darmstadt (Germany).

Einstein wins again: General Relativity confirmed on cosmological scales

In a Letter published on Nature Astronomy, scientists from the Universities of Milano and Durham confirm the validity of Einstein’s theory on the largest scales ever tested. A direct implication of the study is that the ubiquitous dark energy is confirmed to be a necessary ingredient to explain the accelerated expansion of our Universe.

Launched in Vienna the EFRI Roadmap 2018

The fifth Strategy Report and Roadmap 2018 of the European Strategy Forum on Research Infrastructures (ESFRI) was presented on 11th September, in the framework of the Austrian Presidency events, at Aula der Wissenschaften in Vienna.

The 2018 Nobel Prize in Physics has been awarded to Arthur Ashkin, Gérard Mourou, and Donna Strickland, "for groundbreaking inventions in the field of laser physics".

Pier Francesco Bortignon passed away on 27 August 2018. His passion for research and teaching, his rigorous attitude and his dauntless commitment have been an example for all of us, and it will be difficult to imagine the Department and the INFN Section without him.
