Research

The Department of Physics hosts research activities in many branches of fundamental as well as applied physics, such as:
- Applied physics
- Astrophysics and cosmology
- Nuclear and subnuclear physics
- Physics of matter
- Theoretical physics
Many topics that lie at the forefront of worldwide research are investigated, experimentally and theoretically. Numerous national and international collaborations are active. Expertises of relevance for industry and applications are present.
Research Groups collect researchers with related interests. We suggest to browse the pages of the research groups and of Labs for a detailed description of the research activities undertaken by the Department staff.
Students of the degree programs get in touch with the research topics through advanced courses and seminars. They have many opportunities to carry on research by themselves within the Department groups, mainly during the project associated with their M.Sc. thesis.
